In the 21st century, information will be the most pivotal determinant for the nation's competitiveness. Many countries are, thus, making great efforts to buid up information infrastructures to enhance the quality of life and to promote the economic productivity.
In the United States, NII project and GII project have already been on the track. In the case of Europe, STAR project, Telecottage project, and TEN project have beeen launched. Similary New SOC project in Japan, IT 2000 project in Singapore, and MSC project in Malaysia are the recent efforts. This paper will review various strategies for the regional information system of these countries.
Particulary, regional information projects have been started recently in Korea. This paper will place an emphasis on the following facts in order to lead the regional information project in Korea successfully.
Information infrastructure such as information super highway has to be constructed. And the comprehensive regional information system should be developed. Also, the regional information center and GIS are strongly recommend to be constructed.
