The purpose of this paper is to introduce the financial evaluating system for local government in Korea and to recommend the possible policy directions in order to establish the system. The main objective of establishing the financial evaluating system is to prevent the local government from being in delicate financial condition due to insolvent operation. Currently the Korean government enacted the law dealing with the system, but the detailed guidelines and processes have not yet been provided. Therefore, this paper attempts to describe the methods and processes of how and by whom the evaluating system can be carried out in the near future.
