2021 KRILA-OECD Asia Public Governance Forum on the SDGs
Asia Public Governance Forum on “The Efforts of Municipalities in Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)” hosted by the Korea Research Institute for Local Administration(KRILA) in collaboration with OECD Korean Policy Centre(KPC) and Policy Coherence for the SDGs Division, OECD Public Governance Directorate on 19 November 2021.
The forum was held virtually at 3 p.m. via Zoom. The opening session started with welcoming remarks by Mr. Il Jae Kim, President, KRILA, and Mr. Hong Tack Chun, Executive Secretary, KPC, and Mr. Janos Bertok, Deputy Director, OECD Public Governance Directorate.
The forum was organized to facilitate an exchange of good practices between OECD members and partners, with a view to enhance public governance standards for sustainable development that help accelerate progress on the SDGs in Korea and the Asia Pacific region as a whole.
The forum consisted of two sessions which featured an introduction to the topic and the panelists to share ideas on the presentations. Ms. Carina Lindberg, OECD Public Governance Directorate, who served as a moderator, led the first session on “Enhancing Governance and Policy Coherence for Sustainable Development.”, with two presenters and three discussants. Mr. Ernesto Soria Morales, OECD Public Governance Directorate, delivered the first presentation, titled “Governance and Policy Coherence for Sustainable Development.” Mr. Chae Gun Chung, President, Daejeon Sejong Research Institute, the Republic of Korea, delivered the second presentation, titled “A New Perspective on the COVID-19 Pandemic and Local Autonomy.”
As a moderator, Ms. Hyun Ok Lee, Dean, Department of Global Public Administration, Yonsei University, the Republic of Korea, led the second session on “Strengthening Sub-national Engagement and Vertical Coherence for the SDGs.”, with two presenters and three discussants. Mr. Stefano Marta, OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities, delivered the first presentation, titled “Localizing the SDGs.” Mr. Seung Kyu Park, Head, Office of Regional Inclusive Development, KRILA, delivered the second presentation, titled “SDGs and strategic Initiative of Municipal Level Perspective.”
The closing session was led by Ms. Young Joo Chae, Director, KPC, with closing remarks by Ms. Tatyana Telpova, Head, PCSDG Division, OECD Public Governance Directorate, and Mr. Il Jae Kim, President, KRILA.
