2021 the 12th KRILA-CLAIR Joint Seminar

 

 


 

The Korea Research Institute for Local Administration(KRILA) co-hosted the Korea-Japan Joint Seminar with Council of Local Authorities for International Relations(CLAIR) on "Revitalizing Local Economy in Depopulated Society." via YouTube live streaming and Zoom webinar on 17 November 2021.

 

The opening ceremony included opening remarks by Il Jae Kim, President, KRILA, and welcoming remarks by Tamotsu Okamoto, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, CLAIR, followed by congratulatory remarks by Kyu Chang Ko, Vice Minister Ministry of the Interior and Safety(MOIS), Republic of Korea, and Aiboshi Koichi, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Korea.

 

The first keynote speech in the opening ceremony was delivered by Yukiyoshi Yamano, Mayor of Kanazawa, Japan, on "Building Traditional and Creative Communities in Kanazawa City." The second keynote speech was presented by Seong Su Kim, Mayor of Jeonju, the Republic of Korea, titled "The Key to Changing the World is Creativity, Courage, and Social Solidarity."

 

The panel session led by Prof. Seok Joon Hwang, Kyungpook National University, consisted of two presentations and a discussion by five professionals from related fields from Korea and Japan. The first presentation was delivered by Jae Yeon Lee, Associate Research Fellow, Center for Regional Economic Analysis, KRILA, titled "How to Revitalize in Depopulated Regions." The second presentation was delivered by Prof. Sakuno Hirokazu, Faculty of Education, Shimane University, titled "How to Motivate Residents to Reform the Cities in Depopulated Regions." The panelists shared good practices and efforts on "The Role of municipalities for Revitalizing Shrinking Cities."
