The Korea Local Administration Review

As the sharing economy becomes increasingly pervasive as a lifestyle, it has become crucial to understand how people aware and utilize it. As citizens become aware of the sharing economy and its efficiency, individuals and society are able to engage more in the sharing economy for producing and consuming goods and services rationally, thereby preventing environmental waste. Based on the above research background, this study analyzes key influencing factors on citizens' awareness of efficiency in the sharing economy and its mechanism in Seoul. The results are as follows: Awareness of urban risks, pursuit of environmental values, and level of platform use positively influence awareness of the efficiency in the sharing economy. Policy implications derived from the result are as follows: Firstly, it needs to expand the sharing economy in cities or a certain period where there are economical urban risks. Secondly, it is necessary to conduct educations to make citizens understand environmental significance, and use the sharing economy as their lifestyles. Lastly, there is a need to ensure the enhancement of effectiveness and sustainability of the education and promotion on the use of sharing economy platforms.
