An Empirical Analysis of Changes in Occupational Values in Regional Migration of the Young Populationdownload
The young people of the present generation, called the MZ generation, have characteristics that distinguish them from the older generation, but among them, there are characteristics that also existed in the youth of the past. This study analyzed the characteristics of the MZ generation and the characteristics of their occupational values. In addition, the characteristics of young people moving between regions and moving to the metropolitan area were empirically analyzed. Using the Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey(GOMS) from 2008 to 2019, the movement between regions and the movement to the metropolitan area were analyzed with a bivariate probit model. As a result of the analysis, highly educated people, full-time jobs, professional workers, and young people who value personal development potential were more likely to choose to move between regions and to the metropolitan area. Recently, the MZ generation is more likely to choose inter-regional movement for office or production jobs. While migrants in the metropolitan area valued earned income, they tended to place less importance on job security. This study proposed policies such as shifting the youth employment policy to a youth demand-oriented one, target-tailored policies, and preemptive and active administrative service support.
