The local council is the same status as the central council. Despite this status, the academic debate on administration and politics of the local council remains in diagnosing and prescribing a problem, and is less important than the central council. Therefore, this study intends to analyze the trend of research on local councils in Korea by comparing them with the central council. To this end, we conducted traditional research trends and network text analysis on papers published in the Korean Journal of Public Administration and the Korean Political Science Review since 1996.
As a result of analyzing according to the traditional classification method, the discussion on local councils is relatively insignificant, and the scope of research remained at the domestic level. In addition, although the research focused on quantitative research as a whole has been progressing, researches dealing with local councils have used a variety of research methods. Focusing on the research, the policy-oriented research is prominent in the research on local councils. Network text analysis showed that there was no strong network of key words in both themes. While the council's research constitutes a large network, the council's research can be estimated to be conducted in more diverse fields.
