The Korea Local Administration Review

This study investigates the competitiveness level of local medium-sized citiesincluding Chungju, has the purpose to contribute in seeking ways for developmentof Chungju, and the method of study is a factor analysis and expert opinion research.As the result, cities like Andong, Kangreung and Kyungju, had a high competitionscore in the Administration-Security sector and cities such as Pocheon and Kimpo,have a high score in the Life-Convenience sector. To improve the urbancompetitiveness of Chungju, Chungju needs to create a historical and cultural cityand an eco-friendly water leisure city to establish the city identity, build networkof roads to lead the regional development, promote 6th industries, build elderly resortcity to solve elderly problem in accordance with the increase in the elderly populationand the youth unemployment problem, and secure the care institution to improvemedical standards, has open mind.
