This study attempts to reveal which kinds of locational attributes areinfluential for locational satisfaction and industrial agglomeration potential in thebiotechnology cluster, using the survey data from 104 bio-tech firms inIncheon city. As results, Transportation accessibility, Level of industrialagglomeration of bio-firms, and Quality/capacity of operation efficiency haveeffects on the locational satisfaction, while Proximity to overseas markets andAvailability of skilled labor force affect the perception of industrialagglomeration potential. The findings shed light on the importance of thecommunity quality of life, the respective benefits of hard-policy andsoft-policy instruments, and the necessity for a differentiated approachbetween attracting and keeping firms in terms of local economic development.
